Along with our CANVAS Custom sunnies we just received the very exclusive MOSLEY TRIBES collaboration with LA based menswear luxury label Native Son. MT and NS reinterpreted the staple MT style “Lyndel” (my favorite frame of 2010) and used a matte tungsten acetate that was hand molded and is also translucent, it also features quadrilateral gunmetal inlay on the frame front. With 2 lens options a Brown Mineral Glass Photochromic, and a Mineral Glass Grey. Available at CANVAS and select boutiques in Japan – WHAT!!!!. Hot off the presses Canvas has just received the ObyO (originals by originals) Superstars. As part of his adidas Fall/Winter 2010 Collection, Kazuki Kuraishi invited Luker by Neighborhood to design a Superstar. The sneaker comes in a black and a white colorway with vintage effects on the outer sole. The Luker by Neighborhood branding appears on the heel, tongue and the sidepanel. Neighborhood is a Japanese street fashion house and LUKER is a subdivision of Neighborhood that began last fall. Kazuki and LUKER decided on using the Adidas Superstar for the collection and they were so right because these shoes are off the chain. Give a call 310.317.9895.
‘I used to tell cats that Herman Leonard did with his camera what we did with our instruments. Looking back across his career, I’m even more certain of the comparison: Herman’s camera tells the truth, and makes it swing. Musicians loved to see him around. No surprise; he made us look good.’ – Quincy Jones
Herman Leonard will always be remembered as one of the greatest jazz photographers in America and he recently passed on August 14, 2010. This summer Canvas was able to exhibit several pieces from Herman’s body of work in our Messengers of Music exhibit, one of which was an image of Miles Davis in Malibu in 1989. The amazing thing about Herman Leonard’s work is that long before I knew of the man, I knew his work. From the moment my jazz quest began early on in college I stood in wonder and awe of Herman’s image of Sarah Vaughn – NYC, 1950 and Dexter Gordon – NYC , 1948. To me these images are jazz.

Canvas recently launched the New Balance toning shoe called the Truebalance 1100 for women at our shop. In an effort do something a little different and fun we seized upon the New Balance slogan “Own the Moment” and concieved a wellness morning. The morning which started at 8am featured 2 free yoga classes led by Ted McDonald of 5 Point Yoga Studio, a wellness fitness walk through Malibu’s exclusive Serra Retreat community with celebrity fitness trainer Holly Perkins, and 2 cool down classes led by Claudia Blanks of M6 Fitness. Healthy smoothies and vitamin shots were provided by the Malibu Vitamin Barn with the cool flowing sounds of Dj Victor Rodriguez. Good Times for all.

This Air Lunar 180 released by nike last Saturday (sorry I could not post sooner) is what is called a NIKE QUICKSTRIKE. Quickstrike product can be viewed as almost a prototype because it is released to only a handful of nike retailers across the country and Canvas from time to time is one of them and then 6 months to a year later it can often be released in different colors to a large selections of retail. This shoe is like bigfoot it will be highly discussed with only a select few sightings and even fewer owners. 18 pairs give a call 310.317.9895. FYI – this shoe is a running or walkers delight, not to be confused with “Rappers Delight” by the Sugarhill Gang – get it get it!!!
