With tears in our eyes for our friends Dear loss.  With a smile on our face remembering the joy that her music brought to us all.  

She will be missed.  She will never be forgotten.   Donna Summer will live on in our hearts and minds.  Forever.

I am falling in deep like with chairs of late – so look out for more chairs being placed on the site. This particular chair is made by Bellboy, a collaborative workshop based in Brooklyn, who produced this beautiful chair using reclaimed timbers from the New York City Water Tower. Waste not want not, this Old Growth California Redwood has been put to good use by the hand of Mat Driscoll. Described as a “A low lying lounge chair”, this deep seat might take a bit of a push to get out of but we’re all in favour of chairs that encourage you to stay put.

The finished Opus Hong Kong building by super star architect Frank Gehry. Staying true to his unique style, the newly finished residential building in the mountains of Hong Kong is both in terms of format, materials and in terms of design once again an eye catcher. “The high-rise’s helical external structure reduces the need for load-bearing walls, which allows the open-plan apartments to flow around a central core. the sinuous façade of the tower is composed almost entirely of glass creating a surface of delicacy against the rich green of the hillside filling the interiors with light. the exterior of the building turns as it rises giving the rooms a unique floor plan and its own spectacular outlook of the city below and the landscape. each suite has a series of balconies conceived as ‘boat decks’ that are carefully orientated to make the most of the dramatic panorama.

The structure is grounded in an array of artfully stacked planter boxes clad in spanish stone that highlight the ascending spiral of the glass-clad columns. the southwest and southeast corners of the building are expressed as two solid towers finished in amber stone. they accommodate the kitchen and utility rooms and also reduce exposure to glare during sunrise and sunset.”

Kaws is an artist that I really appreciate. I find his work humorous, colorful and whimsicall and modern. He recently showed “The Nature of Need” at the Galerie Perrotin in the Central district in Hong Kong. The exhibition showcased a wide range of new KAWS work. Notable among the pieces on display were an oversized, custom canvas Hands of Death and Chum. In addition, the gallery welcomed one of the largest vertical displays of KAWS works to date with over 50 vertical rectangles that we’re hung in line along the vast wall space of the newly opened gallery space.

KALA’S custom jewlery was introduced to us by a good friend and customer of the shop who thought it would be a perfect fit for Canvas. Right she was, as we immediately fell in love the with the handmade craftsmanship of each piece, the choose of materials, from diamonds of various hues, to the custom links of the necklaces –  these pieces are unique, interesting and are of the highest quality. Perfect for day or evening, each of the designs reflect a  chic but understated aesthetic that we love at the shop. Tyler Burton is an artist whose work we continue to show in the gallery. We are pleased to currently  have on exhibit several new pieces by Mrs. Burton who is a local Malibu artist.  Tyler’s work contains a great peace and tranquility, the faces of her figures are serene, their bodies are often cloaked in understanding and surrender (my interpretation not hers). Oetzi “Otz” which ever you prefer is pronounced the same,  because either means  – great shoes, great comfort and  great innovative comfort footwear design. I gush about this brand to the point you would think I am on the payroll (hey can I get on the payroll?) but you know what, they keep the fabulousness coming – ie the new for SP/SU 12 Tara Sandal. This sandal begs you to put your birkenstocks away and step into the season with a new modern look that is as classic as it is contemporary. Amazing design, supple leather, cork soles and an oragami slip knot lacing system that is much easier than it looks in the pics.
