NEWS FLASH - BROGUES are IN… now you did not need me to tell you that, but hey I just did. Truth about brogues is that they never really go out of style, they are like the button-down shirt of dress shoes – a staple to some a re-occuring trend for others. Continuing on with my button-down reference, Florsheim’s would be the Ralph Lauren of this shoe – they have been making brogues before I was born. Now they have hooked up with Duckie Brown and put a contemporary twist on their product - i.e – the washed leather adds a very cool distressed effect that makes these brogues unlike your dad’s boots. Herb Ritts rose to prominence in the ’80s and ’90s with black and white photographs in which he made his subjects look like sculptures, has had some never-before-seen work unveiled thanks to NOWNESS. They feature a young Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Johnny Depp, David Bowie and Karl Lagerfeld. While he died back in 2002, luminaries such as Richard Gere speak glowingly about Ritts in saying, “some photographers embalm their subjects, but he enlivened them.”

High-end bathroom brand, Roca, has teamed with Zaha Hadid Architects to create the Roca London Gallery, a 3600 sq. feet palace devoted to the arts. Located close to the Chelsea Harbor, water was a major design inspiration as depicted by the undulating forms found both inside and outside. The similarity between the facade and interior serves to connect the building as one complete structure. Although the main walls are gypsum panels, the meandering surfaces are fiber reinforced concrete, allowing the sight-lines of the interior to remain open. Speaking on the project, Hadid commented, “Our work imbues architecture with the intricacy and beauty of natural forms. using a formal language derived from the movement of water, the Roca London Gallery has been eroded and polished by fluidity; generating a sequence of dynamic spaces carved from this fascinating interplay between architecture and nature.”

I may have been asleep and missed the release of this trailer – but I will defnitely be on time for the release of this film. I once met a Tuskegee Airman and was simply humbled and in awe. A piece of history that is as inspiring as it is not spoken about enough. I am confident G. Lucas will deliver a great film. See you in January Baby!!

The influence of American style on British style is so evident in this video – as Jac promptly pointed out, but being Canadian I had to defend the crown and respond that British fashion has also played quite a role in American fashion as well. One hundred years of style in 100 seconds is a clever video created to promote the newly built Westfield Stratford City. The video features a couple changing clothes and dances according to the decade—ranging from 1911 to 2011. When the shopping center is completed, it is expected to have around 300 stores, be 1,900,000 square feet and take the title of largest urban shopping center in Europe. Westfield Stratford City opens its doors September 13, 2011.
