Maiden Noir – love the brand, the design (fully lined shorts), fabric choices (chambray, twill, french terry), fits ( adult slim), feel ( soft hand ) and the philosphy as retold in the video playing on the post below. Pieces are designed in the USA and developed in Japan with Japanese fabrications and amazing attention to detail. As is evidenced in the super light weight french terry Campus Hoodie pictured above. Loving it.
Being no stranger to the fashion world, Nin Truong (Creative Director) has worked with brands like Nike, Stussy, and Timberland. With the current release of his tenth season, Maiden Noir is a brand that at times may seem a little dark with a subtle undertone of a sub-culture theme. Each season is complemented with an intricate story that intertwines each garment for a cohesive collection.
mens apparel: Beautiful ful for Canvas
Our friends at LA based contemporary brand Beautiful ful, created several linen shirts and an incredible biker jacket (sold-out) exclusively for Canvas. The Biker jacket was a vintage design made out of lambskin with a modern shawl neck collar and vintage 1974 zippers and a linen interior. The shirts are made from an amazing Scottish linen, with corozo nut buttons, covered seams through-out, slender fit without being to slim, and available in olive, navy and white as shown above. It’s finally starting to get warm (consistently) in the “bu’- malibu, so we feel it is an appropriate time to drop our Engineered Garments shorts assortment on the blog. A good friend in the business (Ilan) would rave to me about Oliver Spencer and had peeked my interest for the brand a few seasons back, but nothing before it’s time. Eventually I got a call from another friend (Jennie) that had recently started her own showroom in NYC and was representing this brand (Oliver Spencer) from the UK that she thought would be perfect for Canvas. Both of friends were so right, because we really appreciate this brand for, their quality, their details and their designs. Sp10 is just the beginning. Enjoy Oliver Spencer!!!

Back for Sp10 we have several pieces from our first delivery that feature amazing denim and chambray shirting, shirt jackets, a cool spring blazer and a multi fabric button down.

Founded in 2002, rag & bone had one very clear vision in mind: to make clothes that they and their friends would love to wear every day. Beginning in Kentucky, rag & bone surrounded themselves with people who had been making patterns, cutting fabric and sewing their whole lives. Working with these kinds of craftsmen taught them the importance of quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail early on.

The crisis in Haiti is tremendous and far from over. Canvas in an ongoing effort to help Heal Haiti has created 2 limited edition tees with all of the proceeds going to Mercy Corps (www.mercycorps.org). The first tee has a graphic of the island of Haiti done in the colors of the national flag with the word heal enlarged across the front. The second tee has a quote by famed Haitian artist Jean Michel Basquiat, “believe it or not I can actually draw” on the front, and the names of ten unique individuals that have played an important role in the culture and development of the island, from revolutionaries, artist, athletes, musicians to poets and social reformers.

Peace, Love and Art is my CANVAS have been 3 concepts that launched our first t-shirts ever. Each time we try to build on the phrase and give it a fresh spin. This go round we asked three local malibu artist that have all shown in Canvas, to interpret one phrase each.
